“The turquoise water and private beaches of MAUI are stunning on their own, but they could not have been a more gorgeous backdrop for some truly incredible mermaid bridal looks! Beach bridal style turned glam thanks to a pair of breathtaking vintage gowns from GOSSAMER and coastal inspired accessories from LOVE SPARKLE PRETTY! A vintage silk sheath gown and gauzy beaded overlay captured the effortless beauty of the Maui shore along with an ethereal headpiece made with iridescent healing crystals and shells for a mystical mermaid look. MANDY GRACE DESIGNS picked up the shifting rainbow hues in the organic crystals in a lush summer bouquet of purple and peach tones.

A long sleeve crop top and a fluttering silk skirt offered a classic spin on a coastal wedding dress, with embellished lace that echoed the intricate shells adorning the bride’s tiara. Gina + Aaron {Day After Wedding Trash the dress session at Nakalele Point}

On Maui, the Road to Hana is a popular drive and for good reason. However, Kahekili Highway (Hawaii State Highway 340) is a road less traveled that also provides lovely scenery and challenging driving conditions. The road goes around the rugged northern tip of Maui from Kapalua to Wailuku. Although it’s paved, the road features narrow passages around blind hairpin turns where there are rocks on one side and a sheer drop off a cliff (often with no guardrail) on the other side. Simply put, it’s not for the faint of heart or nervous driver, but it is worth it!

One of the biggest reasons to drive Kahekili Highway is to visit Nakalele Point, best known for the blowhole that shoots seawater up to 100 feet in the air. There is nothing like getting sprayed by water that brings out your inner kid. Having just enjoyed their delightful Maui destination wedding and now on their honeymoon, Gina and Aaron were the happiest people in the world anyways. Seeing them in this natural atmosphere amplified their playful spirits even more. 

Romantic Maui Honeymoon beach session { Kanaha Beach, kahului }

Ah the honeymoon… a time to get away and soak in each other’s company, probably much needed after months of wedding planning. This is a wedding tradition I fully support (and of course, I think Maui is the most perfect destination wedding and honeymoon location), however the origin of the word is a little hazy and not the most romantic. 

One theory is that the word comes from the Nordic term "hjunottsmanathr." This refers to when the groom would actually kidnap his bride and keep her in hiding until her family stopped looking for her. 

Another thought dates back to the 5th century, when calendar time was represented by moon cycles. Back then, guests would gift the couple with enough mead aka honey wine to last them through their first moon of marriage. Mead was considered an aphrodisiac that would help with conception. 

Lastly, it is believed that the term is based on the Old English “hony moone,” a term actually meant to warn couples about the temporary feeling of love. Hony, a reference to honey, is for how sweet the new marriage is, while moone suggests the sweetness will not last long as feelings will wane like the moon. 

Luckily, the honeymoon has evolved with couples looking forward to this special alone time of creating newlywed memories together. Even better is when couples ask me to document these moments. 

It was pretty windy for this Maui honeymoon session, but I loved how these sweethearts never let it bother them. In the end, the wind added to the playful, carefree atmosphere and magical movement on the beach.
