On Maui, the Road to Hana is a popular drive and for good reason. However, Kahekili Highway (Hawaii State Highway 340) is a road less traveled that also provides lovely scenery and challenging driving conditions. The road goes around the rugged northern tip of Maui from Kapalua to Wailuku. Although it’s paved, the road features narrow passages around blind hairpin turns where there are rocks on one side and a sheer drop off a cliff (often with no guardrail) on the other side. Simply put, it’s not for the faint of heart or nervous driver, but it is worth it!
One of the biggest reasons to drive Kahekili Highway is to visit Nakalele Point, best known for the blowhole that shoots seawater up to 100 feet in the air. There is nothing like getting sprayed by water that brings out your inner kid. Having just enjoyed their delightful Maui destination wedding and now on their honeymoon, Gina and Aaron were the happiest people in the world anyways. Seeing them in this natural atmosphere amplified their playful spirits even more.
There's something magical that happens when a couple lets you into their world. I feel a bit like a spy who is being shown a very special secret, witnessing the emotion on their faces and the way they share their own love language. This magic happens most frequently when the couple is relaxed without a care in the world except enjoying each other's company, and Day After sessions are filled with these amazing moments.
Of course, don't get me wrong, the wedding day is spectacular in its own extraordinary way, but there is usually so much going on with tons of details and memories to document. We also have to be aware of a timeline and I would always want more alone time with just the couple.
I met up with Lisa and Matt after their Oahu wedding for more adventuring and I'm so thankful we did! Their beautiful love dazzled. Plus Lisa was able to have another gorgeous look. My hope for Lisa and Matt (and all my couples) is that wherever life's journey takes them, they will be able to look back at their photos of the fresh start of their marriage and be reminded of all the fluttery feelings and the reasons for their everlasting commitment.
After all the time and effort spent planning, some brides feel a little sad when they realize that the wedding is all over, but really the fun with your lifetime partner has only just begun. The trick is to keep having things to look forward to -- like celebrating your anniversary with a photo shoot!
Keytra and Eric are still so much in love and having fun after one year of marriage, they don't need tips or tricks and I have no doubt they will be very happy together for many many years to come. They were seriously so charming and down to earth. We kept running around Kanaha Beach Park to escape the drizzle, which made for amazing varied scenery. We shot the session in the morning and luckily had the whole beach to ourselves. Congratulation this this amazing couple I wish you and everlasting life together full of love.
